Wout van Aert crowned Tour of Britain 2023 champion in Caerphilly

Wout van Aert became only the third rider in history to win the Tour of Britain twice after withstanding multiple attacks in Sunday’s dramatic final stage in South Wales. The Jumbo – Visma rider finished second in Caerphilly, 11 seconds behind stage winner Carlos Rodriguez (INEOS Grenadiers), who at one point looked set to wrestle victory away from him at the death. Having previously claimed overall victory in the race in 2021, van Aert joins Edvald Boasson Hagen (2009 and 2015) and Lars Boom (2011 and 2017) as a two-time Tour of Britain champion. Irish sprinter Sam Bennett will return to the Tour of Britain for the first time in 2023, 10 years on from claiming the maiden win of his illustrious professional career at the UK’s leading cycle race. Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire to host penultimate stage of Tour of Britain

Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire will play a key role in deciding who is crowned this year’s Tour of Britain champion when the UK’s leading cycle race visits the historic county in September. The seventh and penultimate stage of this year’s Tour will start in Tewkesbury and finish alongside the historic Gloucester Docks on Saturday 9 September. This stage – the first full day of racing in Gloucestershire in race history – was originally scheduled to feature in last year’s Tour of Britain, but was cancelled following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Southend-on-Sea set to host the Tour of Britain for the first time in 2023

10 July 2023

Southend-on-Sea will become the latest city to host the Tour of Britain cycle race when the prestigious event heads to the Essex seaside in September. Over 100 of the world’s leading riders will visit the popular coastal location for the start of stage six on Friday 8 September. Southend-on-Sea has never previously hosted the modern Tour, the 19th edition of which will be shown live in the UK on ITV4 and in over 150 countries worldwide. However, it has a long association with the sport, having hosted stages of the Milk Race in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. More recently, a stage of the Women’s Tour – the Tour of Britain’s sister race – ran from Shoeburyness to Southend-on-Sea in 2021 and was won by Dutch star Lorena Wiebes. The stage will take place less than two years after Southend-on-Sea was accorded city status by Her Majesty the Queen. Tour of Britain unveils full Suffolk stage for 2023 race

The Tour of Britain’s long-awaited return to Suffolk will see the East Anglian county host a full stage of the prestigious cycle race later this year. Felixstowe will host the start and finish of stage five on Thursday 7 September, with over 100 of the world’s best riders set to tackle a route that will weave through Babergh and Mid Suffolk, the heart of the county’s countryside. Nottinghamshire unveiled as Tour of Britain 2023 stage four host county

The eyes of the sporting world will be on Nottinghamshire this September when the historic county hosts stage four of this year’s Tour of Britain, the UK’s leading cycle race. SweetSpot appointed Event Delivery Partner for 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships

SweetSpot, organisers of the Tour of Britain and Women’s Tour professional races, have been appointed by the Local Organising committee (LOC) for the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow and across Scotland as the Event Delivery Partner for the road races at the event. As the event planning and delivery partner for the road race competitions, including the Mixed Team Time Trial event, SweetSpot will be responsible for the delivery of the remote starts in Edinburgh and Loch Lomond, the routes into Glasgow, and the competitive management of the road race field of play during the inaugural UCI Cycling World Championships. First teams unveiled for Tour of Britain 2023

Britain’s two UCI Continental teams – Saint Piran and TRINITY Racing – will return to the Tour of Britain in 2023, race organisers have announced today. For the third year running, the race has issued early-season invites to Britain’s domestic teams in recognition of the commitment they continue to show towards the domestic racing scene, particularly in the current economic climate. Women’s Tour 2023 cancelled

31 March 2023 

The Women’s Tour, the award-winning and trailblazing cycle race, will take a one-year hiatus in 2023. Owing to a combination of increased running costs (approximately 20% higher in comparison to the 2022 race), a reduced level of commercial support, and challenges in finding a vehicle partner to replace ŠKODA to help create a safe racing environment for riders and spectators alike, it has proved impossible to deliver the event that was proposed for June. Tour of Britain returning to Nottingham in 2023

The Tour of Britain will visit Nottinghamshire for the fourth time in seven years in September 2023. Robin Hood County has hosted the UK’s most prestigious cycle race three times since 2017, with the most recent visit taking place last September when the peloton raced from West Bridgford to Mansfield for a stage won by Belgian sprinter Jordi Meeus. Women’s Tour 2023 launches crowdfunding campaign

Women’s Tour fans will be able to get closer to the UK’s leading UCI Women’s WorldTour event than ever before in 2023 thanks to a new crowdfunding initiative launched today. Fans can show their support for this year’s event, which is set to start in Warwickshire on Wednesday 7 June and culminate in the heart of Birmingham five stages later, by donating as little as £5. Anybody who contributes will have their name included on a special heroes’ wall that will be on display at each stage start and finish at the 2023 race, as well as printed in the official race roadbook. Tour Series 2023 update

The Tour Series, Britain’s biggest cycle race series, will take a one-year hiatus in 2023, organisers SweetSpot have announced. This decision has been made in light of the most challenging economic climate the series has faced since its inaugural edition in 2009. It has proved impossible to compile a commercially viable calendar of events for the intended series in May owing to the pressures on local authority funding, combined with the wider economic challenges all businesses face. The Value Xchange appointed to handle broadcast sponsorship rights

The Value Xchange have been appointed the exclusive agency to sell the TV broadcast sponsorship rights for the UK’s biggest and best professional cycling events, the Tour of Britain and Women’s Tour, by rights holders SweetSpot. The Value Xchange will be responsible for securing sponsorship of the UK television broadcast coverage of the events, whose 2023 calendar begins with the Women’s Tour (June) and culminates in the Tour of Britain (September). Brother UK moves into 10th year of Tour of Britain and Women’s Tour partnership

Brother UK will continue their support of Britain’s biggest professional cycle races, the Tour of Britain and Women’s Tour, for a tenth consecutive season in 2023, it has been announced. They will remain the official print and results partner and continue to serve as presenting partner of the green zones in both the Women’s Tour and Tour of Britain. Greater Manchester to host Tour of Britain Grand Départ 2023

The Tour of Britain will return to Greater Manchester in 2023 when the city hosts the Grand Départ of the UK’s biggest professional cycle race on Sunday 3 September. It will mark the return of the Tour to Manchester, the home city of British Cycling, for the first time since 2019 when Dutch star Mathieu van der Poel won the final stage of the race on the historic Deansgate to claim that year’s overall victory. Tour of Britain 2023 to finish in Wales

The Tour of Britain, the UK’s biggest professional cycle race, will finish in Wales in 2023 as part of a new long-term agreement organisers SweetSpot have today unveiled with the Welsh Government. This agreement, which began with this year’s Women’s Tour stage between Wrexham and Welshpool in June, will secure future visits of both races to the country over the next four years. After hosting the final stage of next year’s Tour of Britain, the agreement will see Wales welcome the Women’s Tour Grand Départ for the first time ever in 2024. Tour of Britain National Land Art Competition 2022 winner crowned

Nottinghamshire creation Spike on a Bike has today been revealed as the winner of the AJ Bell Tour of Britain Land Art Competition for 2022. Giant hedgehog Spike, who was made from recycled objects including wood, plant pots and bin lids, was spotted riding his bike across the recreation grounds in Keyworth, near the start of the stage five route. Team Qhubeka returning to the Tour of Britain

Team Qhubeka, the trail-blazing squad who have helped transform cycling in Africa, will return to the Tour of Britain in 2022. Led by South African rider Nicholas Dlamini, who was crowned the ŠKODA King of the Mountains in the 2018 Tour, the team will compete in the UK’s most prestigious cycle race for the 10th time. Team Qhubeka have an illustrious history in the event, having won the race twice – through Edvald Boasson Hagen (2015) and British rider Steve Cummings (2016) – since they made their debut in 2008. Dan Martin appointed Tour of Britain ambassador

Top former professional Dan Martin will be back at the Tour of Britain this year as an official ambassador to Britain’s biggest professional cycle race, which starts in Aberdeen on Sunday 4 September. Martin is one of only 103 cyclists to have won stages in all three men’s Grand Tours – the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, and Vuelta a Espana – during his career. Elisa Longo Borghini crowned Women’s Tour 2022 champion

Elisa Longo Borghini was crowned Women’s Tour 2022 champion at the death in Oxford as she sensationally snatched the race lead away from overnight leader Grace Brown on the world-famous St Giles’. Longo Borghini (Trek – Segafredo) placed third on the stage – behind winner Lorena Wiebes (Team DSM), who claimed her third victory of the week, and Clara Copponi (FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope) – to take the overall crown by one second. Pro-Noctis – Rotor – Redchilli Bikes p/b Heidi Kjeldsen and Wiv SunGod were crowned Sportsbreaks.com Tour Series champions in Manchester city centre on Tuesday night after three weeks of hard-fought racing. For Wiv SunGod it was a third series title, having claimed the honours in 2018 and 2019. For the Pro-Noctis team of British circuit race champion Jo Tindley it was a maiden crown, having been narrowly denied in last year’s Grand Final. Although they sealed the title at Saturday’s round in Barking, finishing second place on the night behind Team Boompods ensured that Pro-Noctis never finished outside the top two in any of the seven races that comprised this year’s series. All 14 of the world’s best teams will be in action at this year’s Women’s Tour (Monday 6 – Saturday 11 June), the UK’s most prestigious women’s cycle race, as part of an 18-team field announced today. This year’s Tour of Britain and Women’s Tour cycle races delivered a net economic impact of more than £34 million for the UK economy. According to the survey by Frontline, the Tour of Britain generated £29,958,432 of net economic benefit for the UK economy, while a month later the Women’s Tour produced an impact of £4,890,896 net. The Great Tour begins

Following detailed consultations with British Cycling, regional stakeholders, sponsors and partners of the race, organisers of the Tour of Britain have decided to postpone the forthcoming edition of the Tour of Britain (6-13 September), with all parties in agreement on this course of action.
